ith nearly 1 out of every 10 residents in the U.S. suffer from diabetes, most of us
know someone who suffers from this disease.

However, do you know what is diabetes?


What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is when the body does not produce or use enough insulin (a hormone). Insulin helps the body to process sugar (or glucose) into energy needed by your body.

Wrong: Diabetes caused by eating sweets. Not true. Do not eat candy
result in diabetes. However, overweight and less active may result in You are more likely to suffer from diabetes. The most common type of diabetes (type 2) can be prevented or delayed with a healthy lifestyle.

Wrong: Diabetes affects only your blood. Not true. Diabetes can affect almost any part of your body. Diabetes can lead to other problems if not controlled. Diabetes can lead to cardiovascular disease or heart attacks, vision problems, kidney damage and loss of feet or toes. These things are less likely to occur if you make sure that the numbers of your blood glucose or sugar
in the normal range (80-120).

Wrong: If I suffer from diabetes, I would not healthy anymore. Not true. The good news is that people with diabetes can live a healthy life by eating healthily, taking medication, doing exercise, not overweight and met with health care providers. Please talk with Your health care provider if inherited diabetes in your family, or if you are experiencing:
• Blurred vision
• Thirsty once
• Frequent urination
• Losing weight without cause
• Weak or reaches
